Achievements

Brilliant School is a rural K-12 Title I school with 254 students located in Marion County, Alabama consisting of two campuses, a K-6 campus and a 7-12 campus. Our racial demographics are predominately white non-hispanic students with a few exceptions. We have two Asian foreign exchange students who are attending our school this year. The principal is in his sixth year at Brilliant, having served the first five as the principal of Brilliant Elementary School before this year's merger with Brilliant High School to form Brilliant School. The school faculty includes thirteen and one-half regular education teachers, one principal, one and one-half Title I Intervention teachers, two special needs teachers, 1/2 time librarian, one full time counselor, and a 3/5 time reading coach. Other part-time faculty include a 3/10 time speech pathologist and a 1/5 time gifted teacher. Other staff includes three lunchroom workers, two secretaries, one school nurse, one ACCESS Facilitator, and two custodians. A Head Start Preschool is also housed on the K-6 campus. Brilliant's population is approximately 800-1000 residents. There are very few industries located in the area. Brilliant School is a school-wide Title I School with 83.75% of its students qualifying for free and reduced lunches. The school is a very vital part of the community. 

Brilliant School (K-6 Campus) is located on a 12 acre plot along State Highway 129 in Brilliant, Alabama. The main building consists of 15 classrooms, one computer lab, one library, one lunchroom, two offices, two sets of student restrooms, one set of faculty/staff restrooms, and various storage closets. There is an air conditioned gym located exterior to the main building that was built in the early 2000s. The gym is used for physical education classes and special events. Also, there are four storage buildings on the outside of the main building as well as two playground areas. For safety purposes, cameras are placed throughout the building and on the outside of the school. A screen is set up in the principal's office, with views of the hallways, lunchroom, gym, and parking lot. 

Brilliant School (7-12 Campus) is located on a 35 acre plot approximately one-half mile off Highway 129 in Brilliant, AL. The facilities include a total of five buildings along with parking lots, and athletic and physical education fields. The classroom and administration building contains ten classrooms, administrative offices, a teachers' lounge, library, and restroom facilities. The administrative office area includes three inner offices, a large outer office, and storage areas. Classrooms seat up to thirty-five students each. The library contains a large storage room, and office. Restrooms and drinking fountains are conveniently located in the center of the building.Three hundred fifteen lockers are available for student use. A multipurpose building containing a science laboratory, a classroom, restrooms, janitorial storage and office, and a small auditorium which serves as a concession break area for students. The band hall was constructed in 1979. This building provides a large band room and several smaller rooms, some of which are used for storage, along with restrooms and an office for the band director. The gymnasium was constructed in 1979. It contains a regulation playing floor, four dressing rooms, three offices, restroom and shower facilities, two classrooms, and a lobby containing a trophy case, concession area, and public restrooms. Here, students fulfill requirements for physical education and attend athletic events, assembly programs, and other school activities. A laundry room, a weight training room, and adequate storage is available in the rear section of the gym. The seating capacity of this building is 900, which is adequate for most events that are scheduled. A new field house was constructed in 2000. It houses a modern weight room, locker rooms, showers, offices, and storage.  


Outside facilities include a football stadium, a baseball field, and physical education playing fields. These facilities were developed primarily through contributions of local civic organization and clubs. Annual improvements are made to all of our facilities. Although a lunchroom is not available on the 7-12 campus, students are transported by bus to the lunchroom on the K-6 campus by faculty members who hold a valid bus driver's license. Students are supervised during lunch by members of the faculty. Other safety features includes a fire alarm system, fire and tornado drill routes posted in each classroom and throughout the buildings, and fire extinguishers located throughout the buildings. These fire extinguishers are periodically checked by local and state officials. Students who bring automobiles on campus are required to have a driver's license, proof of at least liability insurance, and they must be properly registered in the office with school administration. Parking ramp access to buildings and restroom fixtures are furnished for the handicapped. Safety features also includes a covered walkway connecting all buildings. We also have a phone system that connects each room to the office and permits outside calls if necessary.
