The HES parent drive for car pickups will be closed both tomorrow and Friday afternoons due to being paved. Car pickup drivers will need to use the bus lane off of Highway 17 instead for both tomorrow and Friday afternoon pickups. Please move to the side of the road so that cars can line up two wide on the bus lane. The first cars in line will need to stop at the construction trailer in front of the gym for further directions. Morning drop offs will be at their normal locations. Thanks.

Shared from Hamilton Police Department:
🚌 Stop for the bus so you’re not stopped by us! 🚔🛑
Please stop for school buses when they are picking up or dropping off students.
In Alabama, the law requires you to stop when the bus’ red lights and stop sign are activated:
- On a two-lane road: Traffic in both directions must stop.
- On a four-lane road without a median: All lanes of traffic must stop.
- On a divided highway with a median: Only traffic following the bus must stop.

Beginning September 3rd, HES parents may contact the teacher who carries their child to lunch if they would like to schedule an appointment to come and eat lunch with the child. Only two people will be allowed to eat with the child and they should be the child's parents/guardians. You may make appointments to eat lunch with your child once each semester.
We will try to have a couple of days during the school-year where grandparents can make appointments to eat lunch with their grandchildren. Thank you for your cooperation!

The Marion County Board of Education signed the Memorandum of Understanding today with the City of Hamilton and the Hamilton Police Department for 2 SROs to serve the 1,600 students in Hamilton. Shown are Hamilton Mayor Bob Page, Hamilton Police Chief Jordan Carter, Superintendent Ann West, and District Safety Supervisor Patrick Sutton.
“We are honored to provide dedicated protection to the students, faculty and authorized visitors at the Marion County Schools in Hamilton. It is important to clarify that we are required to hire an individual certified by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission, who is a certified law enforcement officer with the power of arrest. Background checks, psychological evaluations, experience and specialized training was factored during the consideration of Hamilton’s SRO/SPO. There was some confusion during the initial hiring announcement, suggesting that the officer would be unarmed. This is not true. Our School Resource Officers/School Protection Officers will be armed with department-issued firearms and non-lethal weapons, as required by state law.” -Chief Carter
