Big THANK YOU to David and Cindy Copeland for cleaning up and removing some of our damaged, dead, and overgrown trees around campus. We’ve got a clean slate now and plans to continue renovations to the front area of the school. PHS has secured a grant from NW Alabama RC&D to update the fencing on the front of the school. We are currently seeking estimates but know that we will need additional funds to complete the project. Any help is greatly appreciated.

PHS is so excited to show off our new media package. The media backdrop, vertical banners, and table cloth were all made possible with funding from the Bryant-Jordan Foundation. Pictured here is Katelyn Frazier, who was the 2022 Class 1A Achievement Award Winner. Thank you to Athletic Director Chris Gillum for the design and artwork to make it all come to life. This media package will come to great use at many school events, banquets and PHS newscast. #GoBears

PHS Engineering is hosting a Swamp John’s Meal on September 29th, 3:30-6:30. Plates are $14.00 each

Today marks a day of one of the worst tragedies in US history. PHS would like to thank all of those who served and commemorate this day as a day of remembrance for those lost in the attacks of September 11, 2001. We have high hopes to visit these sights and memorials on our senior trip in May 2023. Truly a great experience for our students to see these memorials in person. One of the pictures below is of a man sitting on a bench. This statue is know as “Double-check”. You will find a link below that tells the story of this statue and it’s now connection to 9/11. Other pictures include the Freedom Tower, 9/11 Memorial, and Pentagon Memorial.

They have a weekly newscast and are planning a Christmas play as well as a spring play.

Marion County Schools are proud of our very own Ann West for being named District 7 Superintendent of the Year, and she is a finalist for Alabama Superintendent of the Year. We appreciate the leadership of Mrs. West and how she represents Marion County on the district and state level.

Phillips High School and Phillips Elementary will once again be hosting a food bank on Thursday, September 8th from 9:00-11:00. We are very thankful for this opportunity to share with members of our community. Food will be distributed behind the school in the Attie Fleming Building. We had plenty with leftovers the last time so do not panic but please let others know about this opportunity. There is no qualification for food. Please remain in your car and do not enter the school buildings while on campus.

September is Attendance Awareness Month. Starting September 7th, students who have perfect attendance (no checkouts, tardies, or absences) from 9/7 through 9/30 will be entered into a drawing at each school to win $100!!!

Montgomery, Ala. – To provide all-inclusive support for the Alabama Course of Study:
Mathematics Grades 6-8, the Alabama Department of Education now offers free access to Math Nation powered by Accelerate Learning.
The online and print learning resources for grades 6-8 are available at no cost to Alabama public schools thanks to funding from the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI). This is the Alabama Department of Education’s initiative to improve math and science teaching statewide.
Through AMSTI’s innovative partnership with Math Nation, Alabama students, teachers, and families can access Math Nation’s resources for 6-8th Grade Math from the web, tablets, and smartphones 24 hours a day. Math Nation helps students master math skills with individualized instruction from dynamic content videos led by “Study Experts” — and students can choose the Study Expert who best fits their learning style. Using the Math Nation mobile app, students can also download videos and view them offline later when they may not have internet access. In addition to the videos, Math Nation resources include personalized remediation tools, digital practice tools, homework help and virtual tutoring, a professional learning community and resources for teachers, and family support videos. A limited supply of printed student workbooks are available as well. “Equity — ensuring learning opportunities for all — is a core AMSTI belief,” said AMSTI Director Dr. Sandy Ledwell. “Through this $6 million partnership, Math Nation will provide print and online resources for grades 6-8 Math in the 2022-2023 school year. In the 2023-2024 school year it will add even more resources to support Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. Our partnership with Math Nation ensures that every student in those courses can engage in grade-level, standards-aligned practice to build their knowledge, skills, and confidence in math, anytime and anywhere.”
